Embracing Growth or Resisting Change

Where are You?

When was the last time you said to yourself “I want to change” ?

Many of us struggle with change. Sometimes change is imposed by our environment (work, family, etc). Sometimes the call for change comes from within.

Carol Dweck, PhD, a leading expert on motivational psychology, states “the view you adopt for yourself profoundly affects the way you lead your life …. the growth mindset is based on the belief that your basic qualities are things you can cultivate through your efforts (2006).”

We can choose to learn, to grow, to improve as we answer the needs and demands of our busy lives. Change can provide opportunity to find more meaning and fulfillment as we respond to our inner callings.

The Freedom to Choose a Response - IBZ Life & Work Coaching

Here are 5 questions to consider:

  • What can I learn from this situation?
  • How can I gain the skills I want or need to do this?
  • What is the wake-up call for me?
  • How can I grow from this experience?
  • How might I feel more fulfilled (and how do I get there)?

We are all works in progress. Each of us has more strengths and potential than we may let ourselves know. Reaching towards our potential offers a significant positive difference in our own lives and to the people around us.

Cultivating a growth mindset can help us get motivated, stay motivated, and wake up to opportunities around and within us.

Each day we have the freedom to make choices about how we engage with our lives, our work, our communities, and our world.

Either Resist Change or Embrace Growth!

“Why do I love your blog? It’s written in simple, understandable language that I can grasp as a non-native American. You concentrate all the best in the subject you want your reader to get. If I want, I can go deeper because you add the references at the end. You offer informative ideas and maybe of all of them, there might be a few I can use. I ignore the rest and I have a feeling it’s OK with you. This is not the newsletter I want to delete. Your blog talks to me.”
